When they talk about ocean color and phytoplankton blooms, I think about fertilizer runoff, the Garbage Patch, and similar things, and wonder if they're related.

I know in freshwater chemical runoff contributes to eutrophication. This means algae blooms, higher water temperatures, and lower dissolved oxygen levels.

I wonder if chemical pollution could work synergistically with the carbon emissions fueling climate change to generate more hurricanes and tropical storms over time. After all, warmer water temperatures seem to be linked to them, and now apparently algae blooms are as well.

I am course neither a climatologist nor a marine biologist, but simply a person assembling a crazy quilt out of the information I have.

Because as as an east coaster, what could be more on my wish list than more hurricane action?
