I subtitled a video from Science News, How to drive a car with your thoughts, and was wondering if it is useful to subtitle things like readings. The science videos and such are extra useful since they have videos and pictures without any explanation if you can't hear the voice over. my opinion.
Whereas someone reading–couldn't someone go find the story and read that? Maybe it not as helpful to subtitle a reading.
(I was playing with the interface of universalsubtitles.org to help provide feedback on the design. and assesibility is important to me)

For me as non-native speaker definitively, especially in videos of readings (from a Con, e.g.). Reading the text in a separate window causes lost attention to the video and vice versa.
And even in the case of "Podcast only" I think it would make sense having audio (reading) and text (subtitles) at the same place (useful for search engines, too).

Prolly helpful for people who are deaf or partly deaf to see the words, and, of course, for foreign listeners. I find when trying to listen to something in German, for instance, subtitles in German are helpful. Repeated listenings are helpful, too. I should go to the link and experience your work! I've been kind of swamped at work, but I will go now and look.

I sometimes turn on captions in English, even when I am watching something in English.
I want to play around with unisub's webapp to be able to provide them feedback–in addition to enjoying making subtitles. And I figured while I was at it maybe I could see about subtitling some of the CZP reading series, though it might be better to subtitle Nature or New Scientist videos.

It is just a few minutes of a video, and only bother if you are interested in the actual content–which is fun in itself. It shows a proof of concept of someone driving a car with a brain interface.
